How to Rank Your Clinic on Google Maps

By Nils Agerberg · 23 June 2026

When someone searches for a treatment near them, the first thing they see is a little map with three clinics pinned under it. That is the map pack, and it is where most local patients actually choose. If you are not in those three, you are close to invisible for the searches that matter most. Here is how to get in.

Why the map pack wins

Most people do not scroll. They look at the three clinics Google puts on the map, glance at the star ratings, and tap one. Being in that pack is worth more than ranking tenth in the normal results, because it sits above them and it is where the eye lands first.

Google decides who goes in the pack on three things: how relevant you are to the search, how close you are to the person searching, and how prominent you are, which mostly means your reviews and your activity. You cannot change distance. The rest you can.

Your Google Business Profile is the whole game

The map pack is built almost entirely from your Google Business Profile, so this is where the work goes.

  • Claim and verify it. You cannot rank with a profile you do not control. If you have never claimed yours, start there.
  • Get your primary category right. This is one of the strongest signals. Choose the category that matches what you most want to be found for, then add relevant secondary categories.
  • Fill in everything. Services, opening hours, attributes, a real description, your treatments. Half finished profiles lose to complete ones.
  • Add real photos, regularly. Your clinic, your space, your team. Fresh photos signal an active, real business.
  • Keep your name, address and phone identical to your website and anywhere else you are listed. Mismatches confuse Google and cost you.

Reviews lift you up the pack

Within the three, the order is heavily influenced by reviews: how many, how recent, and how highly rated. A clinic that quietly collects a steady stream of reviews climbs past one that stopped asking. The simple system for getting more is in how to get more Google reviews for your clinic.

Stay active

Google rewards profiles that look alive. Post updates now and then, answer the questions people leave, keep your hours current around holidays. None of it takes long, and it tells Google you are open for business.

The mistakes that keep clinics out

  • A profile that was claimed once and never touched.
  • The wrong primary category, so you compete for the wrong searches.
  • No reviews, or none in the last year.
  • A business name stuffed with keywords like “Best Botox Clinic Leeds”, which breaks Google’s rules and can get you suspended.
  • An address or phone number that does not match your website.

Fix those and you give yourself a real shot at the three spots that get the clicks.

Your Google Maps presence is one piece of the bigger picture. It sits inside local SEO for aesthetic clinics, and the whole of it is mapped out in the full marketing plan for aesthetic clinics.
